WANT TO GUESS WHERE WE ARE GOING TO BE LIVING FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS?
Yes, Hawaii! No, we are not on a vacation. I was asked to serve as a vacancy pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church, Ewa Beach, Oahu, Hawaii. We are presently in a second floor condo supplied by the congregation. We just have completed self quarantine for fourteen days. I can’t think of a better place to have been. The view is great and the temperature for us is perfect with the ocean breeze.
In late July we were not aware this adventure to serve the Lord was in our future. Our good friends Rev. Les Self and his wife Sharon were going to fill this vacancy. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer and has begun treatments in Arizona. (Please include him in your prayers.) He suggested to the LCMS District President of California, Nevada, Hawaii, Rev. Mike Lange, that he ask me to take his place. It didn’t take long for us to say: “Yes.” We are amazed how the Lord keeps surprising and using us.
We would have come sooner but I was serving as Chaplain for the Hospice program with Wellspring Lutheran Services in the Saginaw Valley. Alice had a special invitation to a conference at the Billy Graham Training Center in Ashville, NC. Thirty Christian women speakers and authors from 15 states attended for five days. It was a very dynamic and uplifting experience for her. I served as her driver and had my own private prayer retreat.
I will begin leading worship and preaching on Sunday October 4th at 9:00 a.m. Hawaii time (3 p.m. Eastern time). It is lived streamed each week if anyone one wants to join us. This would be 3:00 p.m. EST. Just look up Messiah Lutheran Church, Ewa Beach, Oahu on Facebook or http://MessiahLutheranHawaii.org/.
Please keep in touch. You can contact us by our cell phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses:
Bob – (989) 295-8494 | [email protected]
Alice – (989) 295-8497 | [email protected]
We would appreciate your prayers for good health, safety, and that the Holy Spirit would work through us as we share His love with others.
In His service,
Pastor Bob and Alice Smith
