Alice and Bob Connection From PAPUA

ABC - PAPUA

The village of Mamit in the highlands of Papua has a sister school to Sekolah Papua Harapan here in Sentani. It started last year. A team of teachers went to Manit to select a group of 45 kindergarten students from about 80 applicants. Jacinda Basinger wrote the following about her experience:

“Culturally, kids in villages like Mamit don’t have much value and they don’t get much attention. So, when we (the selection team) interacted with kids, we were often met with blank, unresponsive stares.”

“I saw a stark contrast as I interacted with the kindergarten students who are just finishing their first academic year: they excitedly and confidently answer their teacher’s questions. They have found themselves in a safe environment where they are treasured and discipled daily... and parents are being invited to join this important work, too, through parent meetings and conversations, etc. The Lord is bringing lots of hope through education to communities in Mamit.”

We are assisting with the education of Mamit Christian teachers and Sentani Christian teachers this coming week with Dr. Darrell and Sue van Luchene who arrived last Friday to join us. We would appreciate your prayers for this special training time.
